“Nathan and Stana are like kids. They’re supposed to leave the set when Tamala and I start going at it, but I look over my shoulder and there they are watching and giggling like five-year-olds.”

“It was about leaving home for the first time, about searching for your identity and making a difference. I loved dressing up like Lieutenant Chloe. She didn’t care what anybody thought about her, and I kinda did at that time. I mean she was a scientist and a warrior, and that was all in spite of the way that she looked. It was like I could be anything and I didn’t have to choose.”

I wanted to cry because the team behind this episode - and Castle as a whole - gets it, gets us. Being a nerd about something, being a fan of something, makes you a better person. It changes something inside of you and makes you more comfortable in your own skin, often at a time when you need that confidence more than anything.
The way Beckett was so proud to be a fan of Nebula 9 and Lieutenant Chloe made me cry because so many young women watching - myself included - feel exactly the same way about being a fan of Kate Beckett. She makes us feel like we can be strong and nerdy and brave and vulnerable—we can kick ass and be feminine and we don’t have to choose. She makes us feel like it’s more important to be strong and smart than to be pretty. And she makes us care less about what other people think of us because she’s confident enough in herself to tell the man she loves not to make fun of the nerdy little fandom she loves so much.
I have so many feelings about this scene, and this episode in general. It might have been cheesy, it might have bordered on ridiculous sometimes. But it gave us this transcendent moment, a moment that speaks for fans everywhere. And it matters so much that it’s Beckett saying these things.

This.
